Anambra CP decries hate speech ahead of gov’ship poll
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar, yesterday, warned politicians in the state to stop heating up the polity or be ready to face legal consequences.
The warning came amidst increased rumour peddling and hate speeches trailing the November 18 election in the state.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Nkeiruka Nwode, the police boss maintained that peace was not negotiable, insisting that the police would not stand and watch criminal elements sabotage the efforts of the officers and men of the command.
“Political parties in the state have been warned to play by the rules of the game and avoid acts likely to cause breach of the peace or intended to heat up the political atmosphere.
“Political parties are also advised to caution their political appointees against careless statements likely to cause breach of peace or heat up the polity.
“Police officers are not ghosts, nor are they magicians. If you have any useful information, come forward and report to the appropriate quarter, or better call our emergency number on any incident, crime or criminality.
“Any party, group or person(s) caught breaching the rules would be made to face the full wrath of the law. Security of life and property should be our collective responsibility,” the statement said.
