Sen Adamu advocates price control mechanism for produce
The chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has called on the Federal Government to implement a price control mechanism for the country’s agricultural produce to encourage farmers’ productivity.
Senator Adamu stated this yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 10th National Agricultural Show holding at the show ground along Keffi-Abuja Expressway, Nasarawa state.
Adamu, a formal governor of Nasarawa State, worries that with absence of price control system, farmers suffer heavy loses when glut arises as they will will unable to sell or get good prices for their produce.
The senator pointed out that since the scraping of Agricultural Commodity Boards, there has been a huge gap in price control system in the sector, which left many farmers in pains.
He particularly noted that farmers in the country tend to rush for a particular crop that has price advantage thereby creating glut in subsequent production year, leading to falling prices, adding that with price control, all crops will have a share of the market.
The dairy farmer was delighted with the turnout of participants so far at the opening ceremony, expressing hope that the event will create a robust platform to build connections, showcase latest technologies that will be beneficial to farmers.
He thanked the Nigerian farmers for heeding the call to go farm and urge them to sustain the tempo.
