Anambra gov’ship: Makarfi flags off Obaze rally

- From Emma Elekwa, Awka

The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, yesterday, assured full support towards the victory of its candidate, Mr Oseloka Obaze, in the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

He commended members of the party for the unity in Anambra, adding that working as a family, the party would take back the state and Nigeria and ensure that growth and development were restored.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at the All Saints playground in Onitsha, Makarfi, who flagged off the governorship campaign rally of the party’s candidate, insisted that it was high time the citizenry took their destiny in their hands by voting out the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) government in the state.

“I urge you to take your destiny in your hands. You are enterprising people; you must change this government and vote in PDP. We will continue to unite men and women of PDP in Anambra and Nigeria. PDP is a Nigerian party and it is the only party under which Nigeria is one and has no tribal disunity,” he said.

On his part, Obaze said unseating incumbent Governor Willie Obiano had become glaring because of his abysmal performance.

He said Anambra had gone to the precipice in the past three years under the current leadership.

The flag off campaign was attended by party stalwarts including former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, former governor of Anambra, Mr Peter Obi; former Rivers State governor, Celestine Omehia; Senator Abdul Ningi, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, Dayo Adeyeye, Senator Ben Obi and former speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, among others.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Nyesom Nwike of Rivers State and other PDP governors were, however, absent at the rally.
