IBB harps on PDP unity

- From Ahmed Tahir Ajobe, Minna

The founding fathers and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were yesterday urged to always work hard for the unity of the country.

Former military president, retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, was said to have handed the advice at his Uphill residence, in Minna, Niger State, while receiving some PDP chieftains and the campaign team of a national chairman of the party, Professor Tunde Adeniran. A statement by IBB’s media office quoted the former leader and one of the founding members of the PDP, as calling on the party leaders and politicians to always put the country first in whatever they did.

“The sacrifices we made to unite the country, politicians should be able to sustain the shocks and upheavals in whatever way to unify the country more,” he said.

“We fought a war and remained united. Therefore, politics should always be geared towards unity of the country,” he added.

According to the statement, IBB assured Professor Adeniran that he will always be with like minds to guide the party and therefore blessed his aspiration, describing him as “a capable hand.”

Those in Adeniran’s entourage included Professor Jerry Gana, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, a former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Maina, Hajiya Inna Chiroma and Alhaji Shehu Gabam.
