We’ve never robbed anybody at gunpoint - Suspects

- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Two suspected thieves who were arrested for stealing from a house at Igando in the suburb of the Lagos metropolis, have both admitted carting away some household equipments.

In their confessional statement to the police, the suspects, however, denied robbing any of their victims at gunpoint.

The suspects, who were identified as Michael Olumoke and Alex Felix, both 28 years old, were arrested on Akinyemi Street, Igando.

The suspects admitted harassing their victims to submission.

Olumoke and Felix had allegedly scaled the fence of a house with their loots and were about bolting away with the property of one Alhaji Akinyemi Fakai when they were arrested.

It was gathered that luck ran out on them when they were spotted by two security men. They confessed that they were thieves and had come to steal from the compound before they were apprehended.

The security men then handed them over to the police at the Igando Division where they were detained.

The suspects were charged before the Ejigbo chief magistrate's court on the orders of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi.

They pleaded guilty before the court but maintained they were harmless thieves.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs J.O.E, Ajayi, found them guilty and sentenced them to three years imprisonment without an option of fine.

While they were being taken to prison, one of the suspects said that it was better they said the truth and be punished for their action than tell lies in court and still suffer in detention.
