The house of the Commander of a Vigilante group in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, was set ablaze by irate youths following alleged murder of one Mr. Ndubisi Oye.

Three cars belonging to the vigilante commander were also said to have been burnt by the youths said to be from the same state with the deceased.

Daily Trust gathered that the 27-year-deceased from Ezza, Ebonyi State, was returning from a meeting with his fiancée in preparation for their wedding when he met his death along St. Monica’s Road, Ogbunike.

The fiancée, Miss Olumma Agbugba, an indigene of Imo State, said the incident happened around 9.30 pm on Sunday.

“My fiancé had alighted to refill the gasoline of his commercial bus and was about driving off when a Sport Utility Hillux vehicle crossed our bus and a man came down from the vehicle, ordering both of us to come down.

“When I alighted and saw that the man had a gun, I tried to make a call, but the man threatened to kill me if I raised my phone again. The man shut my fiancée at close range and immediately drove off,” she said, adding that he died on the way to hospital.

She said some Ebonyi people living in Ogbunike, on hearing what happened, went on rampage in the early hours of Monday and set the house of the commander and his three cars ablaze.

Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the state governor on Youth Mobilisation, Mr Junior Onwutaka, said he saw some men on rampage and tried to stop them but the mob overpowered him. The Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr Garba Umar said his command intervened and arrested the suspect.
