We will achieve the double next season - Nasarawa Amazons

- From Hassan Ibrahim, Lafia

Coach and Captain of Nasarawa Amazons Football Club have promised to achieve the ‘double’ next season by winning the Women Challenge Cup (Aiteo Cup) and retaining the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) title won recently.

The duo made their opinions in separate interviews with newsmen yesterday in Lafia while celebrating their victory at the recently concluded Super Four Competition which secured them the NWFL 2016/2017 title.

Assistant Coach of the team Micheal Olaoye expressed joy over the team’s triumph, the support from the state government throughout the season and promised to ensure that the team is well prepared to defend the title next season and the Aiteo Cup as well.

“Now that we have lifted the cup, it is for us to go back and prepare better for next season because we had a mission statement before this season started that we will win the double but we fell short by losing to Bayelsa Queens in the quarter final of the Aiteo Cup.

“But next season, we have made up our mind and determined to win the double. But we need to improve our performance. We won’t say that because we have won the title this season, we then go and relax, no! We will work harder because we want to win the double next season,” he said.

Nasarawa Amazons FC captain Maryam Ibrahim, described the winning of the NWFL title as an achievement long overdue given the fact that the team came third and second in the last two seasons.
