- From Romoke W. Ahmad, Ilorin

A renowned academic and human capacity development expert, Professor Chris Imafidon yesterday said it is sheer madness for any state governor to be riding in private jets when salaries are not paid.

This is as he chided Nigerian political leaders for running after oil exploration instead of working to develop the abundant human capital resident in the country.

The scholar who delivered the 32nd Convocation Lecture of the University of Ilorin, entitled “The Genius in YOU: New Tools, Techniques and Technology for Developing Individual and Institutional Greatness”, cried out in the course of his presentation, to President Muhammad Buhari, demanding audience with the him to discuss how to reform the educational sector in Nigeria.

He as well berated teachers who look to having enhanced salary before performing their jobs, saying any teacher with such mindset should resign and take up job with banks where the pay is more lucrative.

Earlier in his welcome address, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Sulyman Age, said the individual mirrors the society and the development of every society would begin with the development of the individual.

“Just as self-discovery is key to the task of nursing one’s potentials to fruition, strategic planning and deployment of acquired skills in special and novel ways are requisites in revamping our socio-economic superstructures for corporate growth and development”, he said.
