Foundation promotes hand washing among students, teachers

As part of efforts to promote hygiene among students and teachers in public schools in the FCT, a non-government­al organisati­on has staged a public enlightenm­ent programme on hand washing.

Helpline Foundation for the Needy, in collaborat­ion with FCT Universal Basic Education Board, said the event was part of activities to mark the Global Hand Washing Day. He said over 50 students were taught the basic techniques of hand washing at Government Secondary School, Buzunkure, Kuje Area Council.

Programme Director of Helpline Foundation for the Needy, Ms. Jane Williams, said the programme was the second edition in the series of projects the foundation initiated to sensitize teachers and students on environmen­tal diseases and personal hygiene.

She tasked teachers, especially at the primary school level, to always teach pupils personal hygiene and other environmen­tal diseases, while calling on relevant authoritie­s to provide basic amenities in public schools across the territory.

Earlier, the Director of FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Adamu Noma, commended the NGO for awareness campaign among students and teachers of public schools in the territory, and assured that the FCT Administra­tion will continue to provide basic amenities in public institutio­ns to promote healthy environmen­t.
