Christian Aid rolls out ‘Kande’s Courage’
To mark the 2017 Day of the Girl-child, a non govenmental organisation (NGO), Christian Aid International, presented a stage play titled: ‘Kande’s Courage’, recently in Kaduna State.
The play which attracted a large audience was to stimulate stakeholders to effect positive change in the plights of the girl-child in the state.
The thrilling display opened with a prologue introducing the play with Kande’s father, who serves in the king’s court, in some comic antics, and followed with the story of Kande from childhood to adulthood.
The Country Director, Christian Aid, Mr. Charles Usie, said, “We know the poverty today is caused by actions and inactions in the country. Because we are in a hurry to end poverty, we can’t do it alone, so we are working with partners towards achieving that goal.”
He explained that Christian Aid, which had been in Nigeria since 2003, was currently serving 200 people in Borno with food.
“We have been a key player on malaria intervention, with Kaduna benefitting, and we have been working in Kaduna for 11 years, and currently we are working on three projects in Kaduna: Collective Action for Adolescent Girls (CAAG), Peace Building Project (PBP) and the Voice to the People (V2P),” he added.
The Executive Director of Gender Awareness Trust (GAT), Dr. Lydia Umar, said, “The girls look up to their mothers, and as mothers, we have a lot to do, the kind of impressions parents give their girls; especially around their education, economic empowerment and marriage will directly influence them.”
