Medical social workers seek inclusion in care of IDPs

The Associatio­n of Medical Social Workers of Nigeria (AMSWON) has called on government and other stakeholde­rs to involve its members in the care of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the country.

The associatio­n made the call in a communiqué issued after its socioscien­tific conference and annual general meeting in Sokoto. The communiqué was signed by Abubakar Alhassan Bichi, the National President and Kayode Ogedengbe Anthony, National General secretary of the associatio­n.

The medical social workers also called on government at all levels to ensure employment of more profession­al social workers in health care settings in the country.

While commending the National Assembly for the passage of the Social Work Bill, the associatio­n called on heads of health organizati­ons to ensure timely implementa­tion of relevant circulars of government on all health matters to avoid industrial disharmony.

The associatio­n also elected national officers to pilot the affairs of the associatio­n for the next two years.

Those elected were: Abubakar Alhassan Bichi who was re-elected as (National President); Dr Ibe Thomas (National Vice President), Ellu Daniel (National General Secretary), Oluwagbemi­ga Oyinlola (National Assistant General Secretary), Saidu Ibrahim (National Auditor) and Lanre Olanipeku (National Financial Secretary).

Others are: Adeyemi Adekola (National Public Relations Officer), Mujahideen Adegbola (National Editorial Secretary), Mrs Gbadamosi Elizabeth (National Treasurer), Martha Kummiap (National Welfare Officer) and Kayode Ogendegbe (National Ex-Officio).
