‘Robbers stabbed me 9 times in Lagos traffic’

- By Clement A. Oloyede

A 36-year-old lady, Agnes Enitan Marquis, has narrated how she was attacked and stabbed nine times while in a traffic gridlock in Lagos.

Marquis, who is the head of production at NdaniTV, said while driving from Victoria Island to Surulere on October 16, she was attacked by two men who smashed her car window, stabbed her repeatedly and demanded that she hand over her phone and bag.

“I noticed two men approach the driver’s side of the car in front of mine when I got into a heavy traffic after driving past Apongbon, but the driver was able to swerve away from them. I sensed something was wrong, so I tried to do the same, but was unable to cross to the other lane due to the traffic.

“The two men walked past my car, I then looked in my rearview mirror and saw one of them look back at my car, and then walked back towards me.

“Everything happened really fast. He approached my window, smashed the window and started stabbing my arm, saying ‘give me your phone, give me your bag’. I was in shock, terrified and stuck in traffic,” she said. She added that she couldn’t drive, and just gave him the phone but the stabbing continued; she had to give him the bag also but he didn’t stop the stabbing until she was able to drive off.

“I was screaming for help as my arm was bleeding. Eventually I rammed into a car in front of me, the man came out of his car, saw the state I was and proceeded to help me. I was stabbed nine times in my arm for a phone and handbag,” she added.

She told Daily Trust that she did not report the matter to the police as she was hospitalised for some time and since it has been two weeks since the encounter, she did not think she would report the matter anymore.
