Saidu wins Cultural Golf Tournament in Kaduna

@Ngobuadavi­d Salisu Saidu on Saturday made history by emerging overall winner of the maiden edition of the Cultural Golf Tournament, hosted by the Kaduna Golf Club.

He emerged winner after a count back on Ahmed Ismail.

In Category 1, Dauda John of Kaduna Golf Club ((KGC) claimed the Best Nett after playing 70 nett, while Jim Agbi with 71 nett was runner-up. Jamilu Ibrahim also of the host club emerged Best Gross after grossing 83.

In the Ladies Category, Maryam Abdulsalam of Kaduna Golf Club finished Best Gross with 102 gross.

Best Nett went to Hussaina Jibril of KGC with 73 nett, Ivy Achir also of KGC played 81 Nett to emerge runner-up nett, while Vera David of Zaria Golf Club settled for second runner-up nett.

Veterans Category was dominated by KGC members as Adamu Mshelia, 72 nett won Best Nett.

George Odoh, 74 nett and Samuel Gandu 75 nett settled for runner-up and second runner-up nett respective­ly, while Ibrahim H. Biu emerged Best Gross with 79 gross.

Speaking at the presentati­on of prizes/dinner, Director General of the National Council of Arts and Culture, Otunba Gbenga Runsewe said that the tournament which was the first of its kind in Nigeria, was successful.

He explained that it was deliberate­ly organised to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage as well as boost the economy.

Otunba Runsewe further stated that it was also staged to herald the 30th edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture, which officially opens in Kaduna today.

“It will also go down in history as the first ever in Nigeria,” he said.
