Kanu, Diouf, Toure set for IDPs’ match against Pillars

A former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo, ex-Senegal internatio­nal ElHadji Diouf, Yaya Toure and Daniel Amokachi are among the African football legends expected to play against Kano Pillars in a special match organised to help the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria.

Other legends expected to partake in the game scheduled to hold at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kofar Matador in Kano on December 14, 2017 include Garba Lawal, Tijjani Babangida, Mutiu Adepoju, Samson Siasia, Micheal Essen and Ahmed Yaro Yaro among others.

Addressing a press conference in Kano yesterday, the match Coordinato­r, Mo Muhammad Mustapha, said the special match was more than a game, as it was organised to help the IDPS across Nigeria.

He said, “On the 14th December, 2017, we are going to bring down African Legend footballer­s to Kano to lay against Kano Pillars. The whole continent will be in Kano for the match. We will pick a legend footballer from each African country for the match.“We chose Kano because we have large number of football fans in the state and we will get what we want in Kano.

On his part, Diouf said the African legends must come together to help Africa, saying “Africa needs us all and I am ready to play this kind of game whenever I am, needed to. We must put our heads together to help the continent.

Also responding, Nwankwo, said, “The African legends were in Kano for one course that is to help the IDPS. We are in Kano to create awareness for the displaced persons. We want the Federal and state government­s as well as corporate bodies and individual­s to come to the aide of these IDPS.”
