Arrest Maina now – Afenifere

- From Bola Ojuola, Akure

The Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of exPension Commission boss, Abdulrasheed Maina, saying his case must not be allowed to be swept under the carpet.

At a meeting held yesterday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the group expressed shock at the recent recall, reinstatement and promotion of Maina and the involvement of top government officials at the highest level.

“In the last two and a half years, we have spent considerable time fighting the symptoms of corruption, doing all kinds of media engagement over corruption and media trial without doing a dent to the architecture of corruption in Nigeria. It is the architecture that has allowed that kind of reckless impunity that brought Maina back into office.

“It is also this same architecture that allowed him to disappear into oblivion after the lead was blown of his presence within the system. We therefore state unequivocally that the Maina-gate has confirmed the fears that the present anticorruption war is selective, and some people are given soft landing perhaps on their connection or possibly their origin,” Afenifere said.

The group called for the arrest and prosecution of Maina, saying, “It should not be swept with any broom under any carpet. He must be arrested, prosecuted and all officials involved in his recall should be punished.”
