Babalola battles Wale, Orji as Tennis League train berths in Ibadan

op national tennis star Abdulmumun­i Babalola will be up against his kinsmen when Team Oluyole hosts Team Civil Defence in Ibadan to decide the second set of round robin matches in the Blue Group this weekend.

NCC Tennis League matches will be taking place in three cities of Port Harcourt, Lagos and Ibadan with the Civil Defence team, which was upset by new comers, Team Muller of Lagos in the first round storming the Adamasingb­a Ibadan venue with two former national champions Babalola and Clifford Enosoregbe - and the current women’s champion Christie Agugbom.

Team Oluyole will be looking up to Wale Samson, Okechukwu Sunday and Colleen Orji to stave the onslaught.

At the Port Harcourt Club, Team Kalotari, ruthless in their first tie in Ilorin against Team Optiweb (7-0) will host Team VGC Lions of Lagos, who also started off on a winning note.

However, the Port Harcourt Team which parades Christian Paul, Emmanuel Sunday, Ikechukwu Iloputa and Blessing Samuel are expected to have the upper hand.

Giant killers, Team Muller are expected to continue their winning ways against Team Optiweb of Ilorin at the National Stadium Surulere tennis courts. The combinatio­n of Joseph Imeh, Emmanuel Idoko, Mohammed Mohammed, Ronke Akingbade and Deborah Gbadamosi should be able to contain Emmanuel Ikakah, Isaac Emeruwa, Kareem Badmus and Oluchi Ozurumba.

All the matches are scheduled to start at 10 am on both days.

The top two teams at the end of five round robin matches emerge for the semi-finals from the two groups of six teams.
