Factional APGA leader insists on Hygers’ candidacy

- From Emma Elekwa, Awka

The factional Chairman of APGA in Anambra State, Chief Azubuike Iloh, has said that Hygers Igwebuike remains the authentic gubernatorial candidate for the November 18 election in the state.

He said, “The so-called primary election” in which the incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano, was nominated as APGA’s governorship candidate was unknown to the party.

Addressing newsmen in Awka, Iloh said his faction of the party under Chief Martin Agbaso as national chairman was the one that conducted the authentic governorship primary.

“The primary known to us is the one we conducted and which returned Hygers Igwebuike as the candidate.

“Our candidate has been in the field canvassing; everything is still in the legal palace, by the time the decision is taken, we will know who the authentic candidate is,” he stated.

According to the chieftain, the recent order sought by his faction at the Federal High Court in Abuja was in view of the fact that the primary which returned Governor Obiano as the party’s candidate was conducted while the mandamus order was still subsisting.

Reacting, the National Publicity Secretary of the Victor Oye faction, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, said Obiano was duly nominated and that the argument that his candidacy might be upturned was “illogical and fallacious.”
