- From Kabiru R. Anwar, Yola

Two male suicide bombers have attacked a house in Tsilda village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing an elderly woman and her son.

Muhammad Yusuf, the chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, who confirmed the ongoing attack, called on federal government to send in more troops to save the town.

On fears that soldiers might have been killed, he said “The fighting is still on, the military are still fighting. There are conflicting reports, some are saying three soldiers died.”

Reports indicated that a loud explosion shook Gulak town during curfew hours around 7:30 pm on Sunday, causing panic among residents who relied on phone calls with friends living in different parts of the town to gather information about the blast.

“The curfew runs between 6 pm and 6am while the explosion occurred around 7:30pm. We could not go out of the house because soldiers could mistake us for criminals, so we made telephone calls to find out about the situation. Then a friend living near the scene of the attack informed us that his neighbour’s house was attacked,” a resident told our reporter.

A vigilante member said dismembered bodies of the two attackers and those of their victims were recovered from the scene yesterday morning when residents trooped to witness the damage.

In another attack on Irmirsa community, a Fulani herder was said to have been wounded while cattle and sheep were taken away on Sunday by suspected members of Boko Haram.

The Madagali LG boss said two male attackers sneaked into the village and detonated two bombs, killing themselves and two of their victims.

He said one of the attackers was killed while the military and local hunters were in pursuit of the fleeing insurgents.

And towards last night, hundreds of civilians fled Gulak town, as Boko Haram made bold attempt to take it over around 6.30 pm and engaged the military.

A fleeing resident, who spoke to our correspondent on phone, said “Boko Haram has taken over the town and thousands of us are here in the bush, We don’t know what will happen to us. Can’t you hear gun shots?”

Major Badare Akintoye, the spokesperson of the 28 Task Force Brihade in Mubi did not answer calls from our reporter, but an anonymous military source confirmed the attack, saying reinforcement had been sent to the town.
