Kashere varsity SSANU, NASU protest salary shortfall
Non-teaching staff at the Federal University, Kashere in Gombe State yesterday shut down activities and demanded the vice chancellor’s resignation over August salary shortfall and unpaid October salary.
The strike by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (SANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), paralysed academic and administrative activities at the institution.
The workers staged a peaceful demonstration at the university premises where they called for the resignation of the vice chancellor.
They held placards with captions reading, “Gani Must go, you can’t be a one-man army,” among others.
The JAC chairman of the three affiliate unions, Comrade Mukhtar Muhammad, said the unions had decided to drop their tools over the management’s failure to pay a shortfall of August salary and the whole of October salary.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Alhassan Muhammad Gani, said the nonpayment of October salary was as a result of delay by IPPIS, a platform used to pay salary by the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, but that already officials from the office of the accountant general were working to rectify the problems.
