Suspected payslip fraudster remanded

- By Clement A. Oloyede

An FCT High Court sitting in Maitama has ordered that one Oluwole Fayiga be remanded in prison custody for jumping bail.

Fayiga is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC) in a 13-count charge bordering on alleged falsification of payroll slip with the intention to mislead.

He was accused of fraudulently using as genuine a forged Federal Government employee payslip, official gazette of new appointments and confirmation of appointments, letter of introduction or confirmation of employment of the Ministry of Health in respect of one Ajayi Olubukola Anthonia to obtain the sum of N445,000 as loan from Credit Direct Limited.

He was also accused of using the same documents in respect of Toluwashe Adebobola and Aleshinloye Olawale Tijani to obtain the sums of N500,000 and N446,000 as loans from the same credit firm.

He was further accused of using several other names with the forged documents to secure loans that totaled over N1.3 million.

The trial judge, Justice Salisu Garba, ruling on the fresh application for bail, held that the said application was dismissed, acknowledging that the defendant was earlier admitted on bail but jumped it.

While ordering for accelerated hearing of the case, the judge adjourned the matter to December 4 for continuation of hearing.
