Police nab four over car theft

- By Taiwo Adeniyi

The police at the Gwarinpa division, Abuja, have arrested four people including two security guards over their alleged involvement in the theft of a car.

Three of the suspects had entered a house on 69 Road where they bound the guard and waited for their victim to drive in at midnight last Sunday.

A police source at the division said the suspects, while using toy gun and machete, dispossessed the victim of his vehicle after they disguised as the security guard attached to the building.

The source said the victim reported at the police outpost in Galadima where the information was relayed to the Gwarinpa division.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, confirmed the incident.

He said the leader of the gang used to be a security guard at the victim’s house before he was sacked.

He said the vehicle was recovered in Kaduna metropolis with the support of police officers from Kaduna State.

“One of the suspects was a guard in one of the houses close to the victim’s house,” he said.

“They tied the guard and waited for the landlord to drive in before they attacked him and took the vehicle from him,” the DPO said.

He said the victim’s guard was also arrested for alleged connivance, adding that the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.

The Gwarinpa Police Division also foiled a robbery at Irama Plaza on Fourth Avenue, recovering 10 Plasma television sets, a laptop and a camera.

Confirming the incident, the DPO said a distress call was received from the control room at about 04:19 am that there was a robbery at Irama Plaza and a patrol team was dispatched to the scene.

He said on sighting the police advancing to the scene, the hoodlums took to their heels and escaped through the back fence, abandoning their loot.
