Nigerian Academy of Science marks 40 years as ‘Voice of Science’
The Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) will next celebrate her 40th year as the ‘Voice of Science’ in Nigeria.
The activities to mark the milestone are scheduled to take place at NAS Permanent site, Abuja, from the 14th to 16th of November, 2017.
The scheduled events include a scientific symposium on the theme, ‘The Evolution of NAS and its Role in the Science-policy Nexus, a ground breaking ceremony (at the NAS permanent site), and a 40th anniversary dinner.
In addition, the Nigerian Academy of Science will be hosting the 13th Annual Meeting of African Science Academies (AMASA-13). The theme of this international meeting of African science academies is ‘Science, Technology, and Innovation: Education and Manpower Development in Africa”.
The goals of the conference are to deliberate on education and manpower development issues affecting Science Technology Innovation (STI) development in Africa, discuss how science education and manpower development can accelerate Africa’s growth to meet globally acceptable standards, and initiate a long term engagement plan for African Science Academies, their respective governments, and policy makers to work towards a new era of STI development for a more sustainable and self-reliant Africa.
The conference is open to scientists from African academies of science, policy makers, as well as international development partners.
