Poultry industry going through difficult times – Ogun govt

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Mr. Semiu Alao, yesterday, said the poultry industry in Nigeria is at present going through difficult times.

Alao who spoke at the ongoing Nigeria Poultry Show in Abeokuta, the state capital, noted that the major problem facing the sector remained sourcing for inputs.

He, however, assured the participan­ts that the state government was already collaborat­ing with the Federal Government to revamp the industry.

He said to address the inputs problem; the state government was facilitati­ng alliance between the poultry associatio­n and grain growers to reduce the high cost of grains like maize and soy beans.

He further said the state government had procured 20 bulldozers and other farm equipment to clear land for small scale farmers to grow maize and soy beans in the state.

He said to address the issue of egg glut, the state government was to establish an egg producing factory and set up a 60,000 capacity broiler house in each of the senatorial districts of the state.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, who represente­d Governor Ibikunle Amosun at the occasion, described the state as the hub of poultry farming in the country and promised the state government’s continued support for the industry.
