CRIME Man in police uniform arrested with 30 bags of cannabis

The Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcemen­t Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a suspect in Mobile Police uniform with 30 bags of cannabis.

Daily Trust learnt that the suspect and his accomplice who was also in police uniform were conveying the substance in a Toyota Sienna vehicle from Okene axis heading towards Abuja on Monday afternoon when they were nabbed.

Witnesses said the suspect was seated in the front seat carrying a rifle while his accomplice, also in uniform, was driving the vehicle.

It was learnt that the duo refused to stop for check around Kabba junction forcing the NDLEA team to chase them.

A witness said the NDLEA patrol team continued the pursuit until the suspects rammed their vehicle into a tricycle at the Government House Junction, Lokoja, leading to an accident.

In the process, it was learnt that the other accomplice who was the driver of the vehicle escaped from the scene while the other suspect was arrested and disarmed by officials of the NDLEA.

A tricycle driver was said to have sustained injuries following the incident and was taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Kogi State Commander of NDLEA, Mohammed Idris, confirmed the arrest, saying that investigat­ion was ongoing to ascertain the identity of the suspect.

He said the command has taken custody of the vehicle and the drugs the suspects were conveying.
