Five men charged over assault on Katsina commissioner
Five men who allegedly stormed the office of Katsina State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ahmed ElMarzuk, have been charged before a magistrate’s court in the state.
The five accused, Nura Muhammed, aka Akarami, Audu Dariya, Umar Farouk, Nazifi Aliyu, aka Chicago and Lawal Dan-mama, were charged with criminal conspiracy, belonging to criminal group, intimidation and obstruction of public servant while performing his lawful duties contrary to sections 96, 306, 397 and 148 of the penal code law.
The suspects were arrested and detained at the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID) following the request of a police prosecuting officer, Sani Ado, to enable further investigation.
Ado had told the court that investigation was on going and pleaded for an adjournment to enable him conclude and effect the arrest of those on the run.
The senior magistrate, Abdulkadir Umar, thereafter adjourned to November 24, and upheld the request of the police by placing the accused in their custody till the adjourned date.
The police First Information Report (FIR) said “a gang of political thugs numbering about five, went to Katsina State Ministry of Justice in Katsina State secretariat complex, IBB Way, Katsina where they entered into Honourable Commissioner of Justice’s office, started abusing him and obstructing him from his lawful duty and intimidating him that he is going to be dropped out of office in the next 183 days.”
