Police train 150 on counter terrorism, arrest robbery suspects

The Nigeria Police has engaged at least 150 security operatives for a one-week training on national counter terrorism in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

Speaking at the commenceme­nt of the event, the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, said the current security challenges bedeviling the country require proportion­al intelligen­ce to check the trend.

He said ‘National Incident the training titled, Counter Terrorism Commanders’ Management Course’, would enhance the capacity of participan­ts as they work closely in responding to serious emergency situations.

Represente­d by the AIG, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Dan Bature, the IGP urged the 150 participan­ts comprising of senior police officers, the military, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence, Road Safety, NEMA and Fire Service officers among others, to take the course seriously.

He said the security network of the country was ill-prepared some years ago when the force headquarte­rs was insurgents.

Meanwhile, the police in Benue State have arrested five persons over alleged involvemen­t in armed robbery.

The command’s spokesman, Moses Joel Yamu, said the suspects were planning to rob along Makurdi-Abuja highway when security operatives intercepte­d the vehicle conveying them.
