Wambai Kano wants Nigerians to emulate Kanu Nwankwo

The Wambai Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has called on other well to do Nigerians to emulate former Super Eagles captain and African Footballer of the Year Award winner Kanu Nwankwo in giving succour to the less privileged.

The traditiona­l ruler described the humanitari­an gestures of Kanu an enduring legacies which other sportsmen and women in Nigeria should emulate.

Bayero who spoke when he received the duo of former Teranga Lions of Senegal star and African Footballer of the Year Award winner, El-Hadji Diouf and Kanu in Kano as part of preparatio­ns for the forthcomin­g Match4-IDPs, said he was impressed by decision of the African legend to give back to the society through his philanthro­pic projects.

According him, if every successful Nigerian and Africa sportsmen and women follow the path of the Nigerian 1996 Olympic gold medallist, the society will be better off.

“I followed Kanu from his playing days at home to Ajax, Inter Milan, Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth, places he won honours and I must tell you as a Nigerian, I am proud of his feat.

“With your intention to join other Africa legends to play for the Internally displaced persons in the North eastern part of the country, believe me though I love our darling team, Kano Pillars football club, I will support the Kanu led team to win the match,” Wambai Kano said.

On his part, Kanu said that he is in love with the people of Kano, because of their overwhelmi­ng love for the game of football.

The game, according to him, though, is a friendly game, the star studded legend side will teach the former Nigeria league champions, some soccer lesson which may compel some clubs to ask for their signature once again.
