CITY NEWS Development Control moves to sanitise Gudu district
The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCTA) has given Keke (okada) operators a seven-day notice to quit the pedestrian lanes of the road around Gudu market.
An inspection team from the development control department lead by the monitoring officer under Gudu District, Mr. Hassan Ogbole, took the team round the district yesterday to sensitise the Keke NAPEP riders who are illegally occupying the pedestrian area close to the market.
The team also called on traders, especially those selling building materials such as cement, water tanks, iron rods, tiles, street light poles as well as car vendors to move their services to the places allocated to them by the FCT Administration within seven days or face the mobile court.
While addressing the traders, Ogbole said “This is not ideal for a capital city and that is why we have taken time to talk to them so that they can move their wares into the market which is the right place for them to sell.
“There are places for every activity in this town and this zone is not meant to be an open air market as they have turned it to be,” he said.
While responding, the chairman of the Gudu District Keke NAPEP Association, Mr. Chibuke Irennadi, called on the authorities of the FCT to give them until next year so they can find another location as the year is about to end, adding that they need money to support their families.
