C’ttees find Niger vice principal guilty of impregnating student
Two investigative committees constituted by Niger State government to probe allegation against a vice principal of impregnating one of his students have found him wanting and recommended his suspension and placement on half salary pending the outcome of the case before the court.
The Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Malam Garba A. Yahaya, said the vice principal of Government Day Secondary School, Tunga Minna, Mohammed Mohammed Kuchi, who allegedly impregnated a Junior Secondary School (JSS3) student of the school had been suspended since March 30. Daily Trust gathered that the student who put to bed penultimate Saturday, was allegedly impregnated by the vice principal sometime in February.
Yahaya said the committees also recommended that the vice principal should be made to take responsibility of the upkeep of the girl and her infant son.
He also revealed that the ministry would foot the bill for a DNA to be conducted by a competent health institution to determine the paternity of the child.
Document obtained by our correspondent indicated that the ministry has already complied with the directive by placing the vice principal on half salary.
However, the father of the girl, Haruna Galadima, told our correspondent on phone that the vice principal did not reach out to the family during the period of her pregnancy and even after she put to bed.
