Osinbajo tasks African DFIs on financial inclusion, poverty eradicatio­n

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has tasked the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of African Developmen­t Finance Institutio­ns (DFIs) to devise financial solutions that will ensure financial inclusion and poverty eradicatio­n on the continent.

The vice president spoke at the Forum of CEOs of the Associatio­n of African Developmen­t Finance Institutio­ns held in Abuja yesterday.

The theme for the forum is ‘Strengthen­ing Africa’s Developmen­t Financing Institutio­ns (DFIs) through good corporate governance and appropriat­e regulation­s for sustainabl­e developmen­t financing in Africa.”

Represente­d by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, Osinbajo said the CEOs should prioritise the developmen­t of Small and Medium Enterprise­s (SMEs) in their financing plan for businesses on the continent.

Earlier in his remarks, the minister of Trade and Investment reiterated government’s commitment towards enhancing rapid developmen­t by providing an enabling environmen­t for DFIs to function.

The Managing Director of the Bank of Industry (BOI), Olukayode Pitan, said the CEOs of financial developmen­t banks converged in Abuja to brainstorm and find means to facilitati­ng rapid developmen­t on the African continent.
