Community library seeks AMAC’s support
The Karshi Shukrah Farm Library has appealed to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) for financial support to improve its services and encourage rural librarianship.
The executive director of the library, Bawa Umar, made the appeal when he paid a courtesy call on the chairman of AMAC, Alhaji Abdullahi A. Candido, in his office yesterday.
“The community library is desirous to enlarge its clients and improve upon its services.
“To this end, having reviewed our financial strength, we have decided to bring to your attention our predicament and to solicit your kind assistance in making sure that this dream of rural librarianship does not die and possibly be improved upon as a model for other communities within the FCT,” he said.
Umar added that the library needed adequate and sustainable funding to reach its full potential, and also urged the chairman to allocate land for a permanent library structure.
He also appealed to Candido to provide computers and internet connectivity as well as furniture and funds for running of the library.
Responding, Candido assured that the council would partner with the library, especially in providing modern information to farmers in order to improve their agricultural businesses.
“The area council will visit the centre and afford us the opportunity to see where AMAC will come in. That is the first action the council will take because seeing is believing and when we see, we will act,” he said.
