Bilyamin Muhammed Bello, son of a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Bello Haliru Mohammed, has allegedly been stabbed to death by his wife, Maryam Sanda.

A friend of the deceased, Mustapha Dikko, told Daily Trust that Maryam, daughter of a former Executive Director of Aso Savings, Hajiya Maimuna Aliyu Sanda, had fought with the deceased late Saturday evening after seeing correspondences between him and another woman on his phone.

“We were with them at their residence at Pension Estate, Pakali Close, Wuse 2, Abuja till late in the evening when she continued shouting on top of her voice that he must divorce her because she alleged that he was chatting with his girlfriends and we mediated. “When we left, after one hour later, we were informed that he had died as a result of several stabs in chest and abdomen,” Dikko said.

Other sources said Bilyamin had just returned from the hospital where he was treated for wounds he sustained when Maryam bit part of his ear off after a fight.

He was stabbed three times in the back and severally on his private parts in the early hours of Sunday morning, one of the sources said.

Dikko said Maryam drove the deceased to Maitama hospital where he was confirmed dead. He said the hospital management reported the matter to the police on duty in the hospital. The couple has an eightmonth-old daughter from their marriage, he added.

He said the couple’s marriage was just about two years before the misunderstanding which eventually cost Bilyamin’s life.

A visit to Maryam’s Instagram (private) account showed “Mrs Bilyamin” as the profile name.

Her profile photo showed her holding a toddler said to be their daughter.

“Be happy with being you. Love your flaws. Own your quirks. And know that you are just as perfect as anyone else, exactly as you are,” Maryam wrote in the Bio section of the Instagram page.

In a telephone interview with our correspondent, spokesman for the FCT Police Command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah confirmed that “an incident of that nature was recorded at Maitama.”

He added that a team of investigators comprising of detectives from the Command’s Criminal Investigation Intelligence Department (CIID) have taken over the case.

“The case has moved from the Maitama division to the Command’s CIID for speedy investigation,” he said. Asked if the suspect, Maryam is in custody, the police spokesman said “someone is in custody.”
