200 golfers to compete at 11th CBN Governor’s Cup tournament

-

About 200 participants, including guests, some retired and serving staff of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), will take part in the annual CBN Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament this Saturday in Abuja.

The field of amateur golfers, which will mostly have members of IBB Golf and Country International Club of Abuja, will have a strokeplay event to be won on nett score.

The one-day competition will see participants categorised into male, female, CBN staff, CBN retired staff and CBN guests.

The male will be in three divisions of Handicap 0-12, Handicap 13-18 and Handicap 19-24, while the female will be in two divisions of Handicap 0-20 and Handicap 21-30.

The CBN Staff Category, CBN Retired Staff Category, CBN Guests Category and Veterans Category for Men and Ladies are the others.

There will also be winners for auxiliary prizes such as Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive, with the player with the best nett of the day emerging the Overall Winner.

“The tournament shall be on a “strokeplay-shotgun” format, with all competing golfers teeing off at the same time from different points on the golf course,” Austin Nwachukwu, the club’s Competition Secretary, said.

Speaking on the competition, Isaac Okorafor, CBN’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, said its objective was to create a relaxed and recreational atmosphere.

“This is for distinguished personalities in government, the organised private sector, elder statesmen and members of the diplomatic corps, and others.

“This tournament also creates a platform for interaction and gingering a spirit of friendship among competing golfers, while encouraging partnerships and networking,” he said.

Okorafor said CBN’s sponsorship of the event was further in line with its remarkable contributions to sports development in Nigeria through annual sponsorship of three events in football and tennis.

“This is why I will let all know that the bank is satisfied with the fact that the event has become an important feature in the calendar of events of the club, and among distinguished and eminent Nigerians and foreigners,” he said. (NAN)
