Eid-El-Maulud: FG declares Friday public holiday
The Federal Government has declared Friday public holiday in commemoration of the Muslim EidEl-Maulud celebration.
The Minister of Interior, retired Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, according to a statement issued on yesterday in Abuja.
The statement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mr Abubakar Magaji.
It said Dambazau urged all Muslims and Nigerians in general to use the occasion to pray for peace, progress and unity of the nation.
He further urged all Nigerians to support the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in its efforts at building a virile nation, and wished Nigerians a happy Eid-El-Maulud celebration.
Eid-El-Maulud is celebrated every year by Muslims on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi-ulAwwal as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
Meanwhile, the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has felicitates Nigerians and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of the Mawlud Nabiyy.
This is contained in a Mawlud Nabiyy message by the National President of MMPN Alhaji AbdurRahman Balogun who also canvassed for tolerance, patience and moderation at all levels.
He said that in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad of moderation, patience and tolerance, Muslims and non-Muslims alike are implored to emulate these attributes of the Prophet as a mark of honour to him.
“We note with serious concern the drift towards anarchy in the polity and increase in domestic violence within families in Nigeria. Ahead of 2018, preparatory to 2019 general elections, we noticed tension building up in various camps of political divides occasioned by forthcoming conventions and primaries of various political parties,” Balogun said.
