CITY NEWS Child, 9 others injured I am confident of victory at appeal tribunal – Gwagwalada chair in Abuja auto crashes

The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha Danze, has said he is confident of victory at the appeal tribunal but urged his supporters to continue being prayerful.

Danze, stated this while addressing members of his cabinet in his office yesterday, following the appeal tribunal judgement which ordered the lower election tribunal for recounting of ballot papers at some polling units during the April 16, 2016 council polls in the area.

He said he never saw the ruling as a setback, and advised his cabinet to remain focused, steadfast and committed to the yearning and aspiration­s of Gwagwalada Area Council.

The chairman added that the appeal tribunal judgement was proof that he won clearly during the last council election in the area.

City News learnt that an appeal tribunal sitting at Apo had last Thursday, ordered the lower tribunal to recount ballot papers at some polling units, following a petition filed by APC chairmansh­ip candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, to challenge declaratio­n of Alhaji Adamu Mustapha Danze, of APGA as winner of the April 16, 2016 council poll by INEC in the area.

Afour-year-old child and nine other passengers were injured in separate accidents which occurred on the AbujaLokoj­a road.

A witness said one of the accidents happened on Wednesday night at Awawa village at about 8:30p.m. involving a MAN Diesel truck with registrati­on number WAG 594 SP and a Volkswagen car with registrati­on number BE 31 RSH.

He said the Volkswagen driver who was conveying passengers from Lokoja to Zuba, lost control after overtaking another vehicle and rammed into the truck leaving passengers including the child injured.

He said men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) who were on patrol arrived the scene immediatel­y and conveyed the injured to hospital in Abaji.

When contacted, Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident. He said the driver lost control and violated speed limit.

He said the seven injured passengers, five males, a female and a child, were taken to Abaji General Hospital for treatment.

He further stated that three persons were also injured in another accident which happened on the same day. The accident involved a Peugeot J5 bus with registrati­on number FKJ 568 QX and a Sino truck with registrati­on number KUR 4324 XA.

He said the accident happened at Gada-Biyu village along the AbujaLokoj­a road. He attributed it to speed limit violation and loss of control, adding that those injured were taken to Abaji General Hospital.
