Galadima confident Eagles will soar high in Russia

- By David Ngobua

Aformer chairman of the then Nigerian Football Association (NFA), Alhaji Ibarhim Galadima has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will not only qualify from their group but go very far in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Last week Friday, the three time African champions were drawn in the same group with perennial rivals, Argentina, Croatia and debutants Iceland.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the Executive Chairman of Kano State sports Commission said he does not see any problem with Super Eagles group because there is no big or small team at the World Cup.

He said even before the draws, most Nigerians were not bothered about the group that the Eagles would find themselves in because they have so much confidence in their team.

According to him, recent performances of the Eagles have won for them the confidence of the teeming football fans in the country.

“I know that even before the draw, Nigerians had made up their mind to accept any group that the Super Eagles would find themselves in. Nigerians’ confidence in the team is very high going by the team’s recent performances.

“There is no weak group when you are talking about the World Cup. Any team that qualified is a good as any other team. So it is not a question of weak or small team,” he said.

Galadima also said playing against Argentina again is no big deal as the Eagles have already tested what the South Americans would bring to the World Cup.

He reiterated that once they qualify from the group, the Super Eagles will go very far in Russia.

“Playing Argentina again is not bad. The Super Eagles will have to try and come out of the group. Once they come out anything can happen. I believe in their ability to go far in Russia,” he said.
