Police arrest 11 suspects for murder, robbery

The police in Ebonyi yesterday said they have recovered 11 stolen vehicles and arrested 11 persons for their alleged involvemen­t in armed robbery, murder and unlawful possession of live cartridges.

Others paraded by the command were suspected fraudsters popularly known as 419 including hoodlums who were suspected to have stolen some valuable properties and vandalized MTN communicat­ion equipment in the state.

Also arrested was one Oliver Adaonu who is said to specialize in changing chassis/engine/ plate numbers and original colours of stolen vehicles.

He confessed to have changed over 50 chassis numbers of stolen/robbed vehicles in the south eastern part of the country

Briefing newsmen at the command headquarte­rs in Abakaliki, the Commission­er of Police, CP Titus Lamorde, said that the fraudsters duped two females, Chidinma Helen the sum of N256,000 and Chukwu Eucharia the sum of N200,000. “On 4th December, 2017, Eberechukw­u Madujibeya was arrested and could not give satisfacto­ry account of a Toyota Camry car.

“During the search, a pair of vehicle plate numbers, RT. 709 ABC and the documents of the car bearing Mrs. Mary Shedrack were found in the car. The woman was contacted, who confirmed that on 19th November, 2017 the car was robbed from her at gunpoint, at Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State. She identified the car and the suspect,” he said.

Items recovered were 23 locally made pistols, five Dane guns and one assault Beretta rifle and quantities of live ammunition.

Others were cartridges of different brands, two AK-47 rifles, four pump action rifles and some items suspected to be charms.
