Oyegun extends hands of friendship to Secondus
The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has congratulated the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, on his election at last Saturday’s national convention.
Chief Odigie-Oyegun, in a release which he personally issued and signed yesterday on behalf of the APC, also congratulated other newlyelected national officials of the PDP.
He expressed hope that the newly-elected national chairman would use his experience garnered over the years to ensure that the PDP assumed its role as a responsible opposition party in the country.
He said the APC welcomed opposition because of its belief that democracy could not thrive without a vibrant but responsible opposition that put the nation first.
He said such type of opposition would often challenge the ruling party “to balance partisan interests with overall national consideration.”
He assured the PDP national chairman of his willingness to engage him robustly in an atmosphere devoid of acrimony and rancour.
Similarly, a former National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Chief Sam Nkire who is now a chieftain of the ruling APC, however, cautioned the new PDP national chairman to take time to learn how to chair an opposition party.
