2 robbery suspects killed in Nsukka

-

The police in Enugu are reported to have engaged in a shootout with a gang of robbers and cultists in Nsukka during which it gunned down two notorious suspects.

The incident happened on December 9, according to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu.

He said the police recovered one locally made single barrel gun with five cartridges from the suspects.

The suspects killed have been identified as Igwebuike Ugwu alias Ntu and Ifeanyi Eya alias Hero.

Amaraizu said the two men were members of the Vikings cult that had terrorised the university town of Nsukka.

“One of the deceased, Ifeanyi Eya, alias Hero, was the Capo of the Viking cult group in the university town of Nsukka,’’ he said.

“It was further gathered that the dead suspects and their cohort have been involved in various armed robbery incidences at students’ hostels at Hill-top Area of Nsukka and its environs,” he said.

He said police swooped on the robbery gang after they received a distress call that the hoodlums were operating along Agbu Ugwu lane and dispossessing people of their belongings.

“It was further gathered that the suspects engaged the operatives in a gun duel but were over-powered by the operatives leaving some fatally injured but who along with others escaped through the bush.”

The PPRO said a manhunt for the fleeing ones has been intensified.

He urged hospitals and clinics to report promptly anyone seeking medical attention for suspected gunshot injury. (NAN)
