Police arrest kidnappers of Gombe nurse

The police in Gombe have arrested four people who allegedly abducted a nurse working with the Gombe State Government about two months ago.

The nurse who worked with a Cottage Hospital in Hina town of Yamaltu-Deba LGA of the state, Mr Ephraim Ajuji, was abducted by gunmen in his house in the early hours of October 2017.

Parading the suspects on Monday at the state police command headquarte­rs, the Commission­er of Police, Mr Shina Tairu Olukolu, said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and members of a hunters group.

He said the four suspects, Mu’azu Adamu, alias Dabo, 27, of Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State; Bodori Maifada, 25, of Balanga LGA; and Wada Ahmadu, 26, of YamaltuDeb­a LGA of Gombe State, all confessed to being members of the syndicate that kidnapped the nurse.

The police commission­er said an AK47 rifle with 19 rounds of ammunition, machetes, knives, a motorcycle and the sum of N200,000 were recovered from the suspects.

Daily Trust reports that Mr Ajuji was whisked away on Tuesday October 31 from his house by hoodlums wielding guns.

He was however, released after spending a day with the kidnappers, after his family paid an undisclose­d sum of money as ransom.

Police also said eight suspects belonging to a syndicate that specialize­d in producing counterfei­t currency, theft and receiving stolen properties have been arrested.

The suspects; Usman Mohammed, 39 and Hussein Mohammed all of Akko LGA were arrested with 65 pieces of N1000 notes, which they were circulatin­g in markets across the state.
