Kano assembly under pressure to remove dep gov
Members of the Kano State House of Assembly are under pressure to remove the Deputy Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, sources in the assembly said yesterday.
Prof. Abubakar had declared that he would not join ticket with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje come 2019.
A principal member of the assembly who pleaded for anonymity told Daily Trust that some people had started mounting pressure on the lawmakers to start the process for the impeachment of the deputy governor.
The lawmaker said hours after a leaked audio went viral on both social and conventional media; he had received over 50 phone calls from different quarters asking him to support the impeachment of Prof. Abubakar.
He opined that Professor Abubakar should have quietly resigned from his position if he felt offended instead of making such unfortunate comments, lamenting that his statements had sent a bad impression regarding his relationship with his principal.
When contacted, the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said government had already made its position on the matter.
He said, “We have issued a statement and we still stand by it. The governor has directed for the immediate reinstatement of the removed APC ward chairman in order to restore peace and harmony in the government and the party as well,” he said.
