FCDA staff co-op to elect officials in Feb

- By Mulikat Mukaila

The long awaited election into offices of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society will take place in February 2018, the caretaker committee president of the society, Mr Bright Osieomaye, has said.

FCDA staff have yearned for election since 2014 when the erstwhile executive led by Mr Ambrose Senchi was eased out over allegations of financial impropriety but due to court cases and other encumbrances, election could not hold.

Speaking at the society’s annual general meeting at the Engineering Conference Hall of the authority on Thursday, the president lamented that some members had through rumour attempted to pull down the society.

According to Osieomaye, some members, especially medical workers had formed a parallel society and that had decreased the income of the society.

Auditors’ financial statement showed a drop from N76 million in 2016 to N47 million (about 38 per cent) in 2017.

Deputy Director Staff Welfare and Benefits, Mrs Joy Okoro, who represented the management said, “Management ensures that anyone who mismanages the cooperative’s funds is prosecuted.

“They used to feel they’re independent but they’re not independent - government monitors them to be aware of what is happening.”

It was observed that the conference was held with armed police stationed at the entrance of the hall.
