APC felicitates with Christians
Some aggrieved women under the auspices of “Concerned Women of All Progressives Congress (APC) have sought audience with President Muhammadu Buhari to demand inclusion and participation in governance.
The women, in an open letter of plea to President Buhari yesterday, said they had “patiently watched with all humility” the sidelining of APC women of intellect and character in the political appointments made till date.
The letter which was read yesterday in Abuja at a press conference was signed by Miriam Yakubu Ikunaiye, Hon. Ayoade Simisola, Hon. Olubunmi Salako, Princess Adesola Oyinloye-Ndu, Hadiza Kabir, Safaa Musa Adam, Zainab Yusuf Ogundana, Chinwendu Eteyen Ambassador and Mrs. Bennie Adoga.
The aggrieved APC women, also known as, “Caucus of Like Minds, voiced optimism that President Buhari as a compassionate leader would meet them before the 2019 general elections.
They expressed regret that all their efforts that brought the APC to the seat of government in the face of humiliation, threats and death had not been appreciated.
The letter read in part, “We represent the progressive women leaders, stakeholders and many more aggrieved women of our great party, the APC from all walks of life.
“These are women who worked out their hearts and spent their resources, sometimes at the detriment of their families; travelled the length and breadth of this country to get fair deal for the women and youths; justice, good governance, succour to the down trodden; development to our people and dear nation which in turn ushered in the progressive government and our great party to where we are today.
“While appreciating the new and indefatigable SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha, as a great party man of intellect and strategy with the sincere hope that his reign will bring about the much awaited inclusion and recognition of women. We wish to use this medium to appeal directly through this open letter to the conscience of Your Excellency, our father, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Buhari (GCFR), and political messiah of our time for an expedient redress as every other medium had failed.
“We were neither appreciated nor recognised for our bravery. We can only wonder when we will be able to further bring our skills, experience and passion for change to bear its full course in this present administration, Your Excellency, under the leadership of our great party, the APC.” The APC has felicitated with Christians and all Nigerians on the joyous occasion of Christmas which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.
The APC, in a statement signed yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, urged Christians and non-Christians to use the Christmas as a time to renew bonds of love, show appreciation for each other and build bridges of understanding, acceptance and forgiveness among ourselves irrespective of religious, ethnic, political and sundry differences.
The party also urged all Nigerians, particularly the religious and political leaders, to preach peace, understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, adding that they should shun divisive tendencies “only then can we achieve our aspiration for a better, unified, developed and prosperous Nigeria.
“Yes, our challenges as a nation are evident but not insurmountable. With our collective prayers and commitment to our nationhood and national development, the country will surely attain its deserved heights,” the statement further read.
The APC, which wished all Nigerians a merry Christmas, also prayed for a festival that brought abundant joy and happiness to the nation.
