Group moves to recall Kwara South Senator

- From Romoke W. Ahmad, Ilorin

An advocacy group, Kwara South Unity Forum, at the weekend said it has stated a process to recall Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim representing Kwara South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The group said this at a press conference held at Ijagbo in Kwara State.

The president of the forum, Comrade John Adegboye, said it was time to begin to take proactive, bold and decisive actions towards how they were being represented as a people.

He said, “It was our collective decision as a people to give support to candidates of the APC during the 2015 general elections because prevailing circumstances dictated such position to be the best choice as at that time. However, there is currently an air of disenchantment, disenfranchisement and apathy in all the seven local government areas that make up Kwara South Senatorial district.

“We are being represented by an individual who does not have independent mind and must first of all consult with a boss before taking decisions. Our elected representatives broke faith with us immediately after they entered the national and state houses of assembly and were sworn in officially.

“Today, we have honourables who played back to us instructions from their boss rather than carrying the messages of the constituents to the assembly. Our senator openly declared that he has a boss, other than us, that he takes directives from,” Adegboye said.

He, “We have, therefore, decided to intimate Nigerians of our intention to recall Senator Rafiu Ibrahim from the 8th National Assembly and that letters to this effect have already been dispatched to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Abuja and a notification of our dissatisfaction as regards the quality of representation by Senator Rafiu has also been forwarded for the information of the Senate.

“Our actions need not be viewed as a political manoeuvre. It is a move towards accomplishing progress and sustainable development of our constituency,” he said.

However, a joint press conference addressed by student bodies and other stakeholders from the constituency has passed a vote of confidence on Senator Rafiu Ibrahim for what they describe as his contribution to uplifting the lives of many in his constituency and beyond.

“Our facts are enormous to prove to the world that Senator Ibrahim is a father and mentor to Nigerian students as it can be seen in the construction of relaxation centre at University of Ilorin, students empowerment scheme, scholarships, free vocational training among others and we assure him of our continuous support,” Comrade Abdulkadir Aliyu, the chairman, NANS, Kwara State said.
