Fuel scarcity: Niger gets 1 truck in 2 days

- From Ahmed Tahir Ajobe, Minna

The lingering scarcity worsened across Niger State Tuesday through yesterday as only one truck of petrol got to the state for the past two days.

The Department of Petroleum Resources’s head of operation in the State, Mr. Sunday John Senchi told Daily Trust yesterday while on inspection of some fuel stations in Maitumbi area of Minna metropolis that only three filling stations dispensed fuel on Tuesday.

Mr Senchi revealed that as at 12pm yesterday no allocation had been sent to the state.

He said that in the immediate past the state’s allocation was between 30 to 40 trucks daily.

He said the department was monitoring to ensure that filling stations with fuel dispensed same to motorists.

He called on marketers to avoid hoarding, warning that the department would dispense product of any filling station hoarding fuel.

Our correspondent noticed long queues at the NNPC Mega station on the western by -pass in Minna and a few others that had the product.

At the Maitumbi area of Minna, stations such as Muhabat, First Ja’az Global Resources limited and Mutmusa Nig limited were selling above pump price as at morning when our correspondent visited the area but reverted to the official pump price when words filtered in that DPR officials were going round.
