Shelve your personal interests, build Nigeria, Kukah advises politicians
The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, has advised politicians to put aside their selfish interest and join hands to build the country.
He spoke at the Christmas get-together party organized for resident communities by the Diocese Tuesday evening. He said, “Nigeria is a beautiful country and nobody from anywhere can build it for us.”
He said leaders alone could not make the country great, adding that the quality of the followership and their commitment to what they wanted was what would make a great country.
He advised Nigerians, particularly politicians, to put their selfish interest aside and continue with the project of building Nigeria.
He harped on peace and unity of the country which he said was paramount for a prosperous Nigeria.
Kukah reiterated that Nigerians wanted to see the end of Boko Haram no matter how much it would cost the country. “We pray that as we enter 2018 we will enter with joy and coincidence. We pray that at the end whether it cost a billion dollars or more or less, we will really have a truly, visible and tangible victory against Boko Haram so that we can start the process of rebuilding our country,” he said.
On the get-together, he said it was organised to promote peace and harmony among the resident communities, Christian denominations and other religious leaders, and commended Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for maintaining peace in Sokoto State.
