I don’t want to leave my wife, man begs court

- From Jeremiah Oke, Ibadan

A commercial driver, Mr Alao Olaide, yesterday told a customary court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, that it should help him to beg his wife, Mrs Hannah Alao, who has sued to divorce him.

Olaide admitted it was true as alleged by his wife that he had not been paying certain important bills and carrying out some family responsibilities, but promised he would adjust on such infractions and even stop consuming alcohol.

The driver blamed his conduct on what he described as the heavy payment of NURTW dues, and that he was spending a lot of money on buying fuel for the bus he is using to work.

He promised that his wife would begin to witness positive changes in his life, especially on taking care of his family.

Earlier, Mrs Alao had told the court that she has five children for Mr Olaide and the oldest is now more than 30 years old. She alleged that her husband never cared for any of the children from their childhood till they got to higher institutions.

She said her husband was a heavy consumer of alcohol who never cared about the welfare of his family, even when he had a good job with a construction company.

The president of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, adjourned the case till January 24, 2018 for further hearing and asked the wife to contact members of both families to resolve the issue before the said date.
