Ogbeh, Buratai drum support for farmer investment initiative of the military
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh has said the his ministry would support the agricultural initiatives of the Nigerian Military.
Ogbeh made this commitment during a courtesy visit on him by a delegation from the Nigerian Army led by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai recently.
The minister expressed gratitude to the military for the risk taken on a daily basis to keep the nation safe and for the interest shown in developing the nation’s agriculture sector.
He added that “If we can cut down on importation of food, we can achieve self- sufficiency in food production.”
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai commended the minister for the feat achieved in rice production and called on the Federal Government to support the Farmer Investment Initiative of the Military.
Burutai noted that the support would further boost the initiative and create more opportunities for the military personnel and their families.
The Minister of State in the ministry, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri welcomed the initiative of the military for its effort at improving agricultural production in the barracks and noted that the military has vast land that can be utilized for agricultural purposes which will eventually create wealth and employment.
