- By Muideen Olaniyi

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have prayed for quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf, who got injured in a bike accident in Abuja.

The National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement which he signed yesterday, said that the party was relieved that accident was not fatal.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the first family following injuries sustained by Yusuf, the son of President Buhari in a motorbike accident.

“The APC family is relieved that accident was not fatal. We pray Yusuf makes a speedy and full recovery,” the terse statement read.

The PDP, in a statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan in APC Abuja, said that the party was shocked by the news of the accident.

“PDP as a family receive with shock, the sad news of the involvement of Yusuf Buhari, son of President Muhammadu Buhari in a power-bike accident in Abuja on Wednesday.

“The PDP as a family prays for Yusuf’s speedy recovery to enable him return to his normal life.

Ologbondiyan said that PDP was reassured by reports from the Presidency that Yusuf Buhari was in a steady condition.

“We also commend the prompt intervention by medics even as we value the concern of all wellmeaning Nigerians for their prayers for Yusuf and the first family”.

Similarly, a chieftain of the ruling APC, Comrade Timi Frank, has called on Nigerians, most especially the youth, to pray for the quick recovery of Yusuf Buhari.

Frank, in a statement issued and signed yesterday in Abuja to express his sympathy over the accident, called on Nigerians, most especially the politicians to set aside their political, religious or ethnic differences at the moment to remember the first family in prayers.

The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary said if it is well with the first family, it will surely be well with Nigeria as a country.

“To pray for the wellbeing of our leaders and their family members is a responsibility expected of the followers. The Holy Books made us to understand that no leader can emerge without the permission of God Almighty. So, we all have a duty because the first family is the symbol of our nation,” Frank also said.

The APC chieftain, further justifying the need for the prayers, said what happened to Yusuf Buhari could happen to anybody.
