Man Utd end Antoine Griezmann interest

-

Manchester United appear to have dropped out of the race for Antoine Griezmann.

The Atletico Madrid forward look destined for Old Trafford in the summer.

However, Griezmann decided against a move to United, instead choosing to remain in La Liga while his side were under a transfer embargo.

Jose Mourinho was expected to launch another bid for the Frenchman when the transfer window reopens next month.

But according to Marca, the Portuguese boss is not prepared to engage in a bidding war with Barcelona.

The La Liga leaders are still looking to improve their squad after the departure of Neymar in the summer.

Marca also report Mourinho is a fan of Griezmann but is not convinced at the price tag slapped on him by Atletico.

The former Real Sociedad man will reportedly cost 100m (£88m) after his release clause was slashed.

However, one potential sticking point in a move to Barcelona is the fact Ernesto Valverde’s men have been accused of tapping up Griezmann.

Reports in Spain suggested Catalan chiefs have had meetings with the 26-yearold’s entourage and discussed a potential move.

The news of Mourinho’s disinterest is likely to please Liverpool fans.

It is unlikely Barcelona will be able to sign both Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho, meaning Jurgen Klopp may be set to keep hold of the Brazilian once again.
